statement of intent

My brief is to be able to construct a real-life magazine and successfully target it to an audience of 16-25 year olds. My magazine will be aimed at those interested in finding out the details of the everyday person's life, and include engaging/ thrilling stories that people can relate to. Many magazines have attempted to produce magazines like this, but none of them seem to have this demographic in mind, so hopefully with the production of my magazine, it will broaden, and improve, their portfolio. I believe that my audience would be connected to stories that they feel are relatable, and they have some experience with. I also think that my demographic would be able to identify with the magazine more if the models on the cover were an age within my target audience. Because my target audience is younger, I feel they would approve of a more diverse and inclusive magazine, which is something that I am striving to achieve. To do this, I will include a variety of different genders, ethnicities and sexualities. My research shows magazines that have a collection of bright colours to highlight the news stories and engage readers. This is something that I will continue in my own magazine, because it will help to attract my audience. Because it is a real-life magazine, it is quite low-budget, and the lighting on the original magazines is not that special, or flattering, so I am going to use the same lighting styles, but alter the positioning of the model, so the lighting doesn’t look overly cheap. My research shows that the magazines are designed in a way that makes the magazine seem local and familiar, so that the customers are drawn to it, because of the familiarity.
